Easy Ways to Green Your Event: Part II

AT THE EVENT:

Transportation

  • Encourage carpooling, public transportation, biking or walking.
  • If having a larger event, rent bio fueled vehicles for guests, ie: limos, buses, vans and cars.

Table Settings

  • Choose china and glassware instead of using paper and plastic plates and cups. If you must use disposable, be sure to make sure it is recyclable or easy to compost.
  • Buy or rent fabric reusable table coverings and napkins instead of paper or plastic.
  • Use local in season flowers in centerpieces or instead, try to use unique non-flower pieces into your theme.

Things to Remember

  • Promote your efforts to make your event green.
  • Tell your guests about any additional event-related material that is available online.
  • Make sure all recycling containers are marked and easy for your guests to access.
  • Provide a place for name badge return and other reusable materials as your guests exit.

AFTER THE EVENT:

Cleanup

  • Recycle or reuse leftover paper products.
  • Work with the venue to compost and donate any leftover food items.

PRIOR TO THE EVENT:

Invitations

  • Virtual invitations sent by e-mail or through social networking Web sites are easy and quick, in addition to being more inexpensive than using paper.
  • If you do decide to print your invitations, select recycled paper. If you want to go the extra mile, print your invitations using a vegetable or soy-based ink printer.

Registration

  • Using online registration is a simple way to manage, organize and track guests. Many systems allow guests to print their own badges or you could also use the same vegetable or soy-based printer to print them yourself.
