A Touchdown Event- Superbowl Party

02.01.10

Football season is coming to an end and that means two things, 1) we all get our boyfriends/husbands back until NBA finals, and 2) we get to plan a superbowl party, which is what I’m most excited about. I am not the type of person that follows football all season long, but when it comes to the superbowl I get pumped to throw the party all my friends come to.

For those ladies who do not know anything about football or the superbowl, here is some background information you can surprise you partner with. On Sunday, February 7 at 6:00pm the New Orleans Saint will be playing the Indianapolis Colts. This is the first year the Saints have made it to the superbowl, and on the other hand, the Colts just won the superbowl in 2007 against Chicago Bears (29-17). Carrie Underwood will be singing the Nation Anthem this year and America the Beautiful will be sang by Queen Latifah.

Now for what we are all interested in, some superbowl party tips. My number one tip for this event is to think like a man but add a girly touch. Don’t overdo it with the shopping and decorations, because men don’t care about too many things other than the game, the beverages, and what’s going into their stomachs, but we will add a hint of girl to the party, without the men realizing it.

EVERYONE MUST PICK A TEAM TO CHEER FOR ONCE ENTERING THE PARTY

Beverages:

Men’s liking: buy a keg. The most common superbowl beer is Bud Light, but we recommend doing something different. Here’s a list of 10 Beers You Need To Try Before You Die or just take a trip down the grocery or liquor store asile and see what unique beers you can add to the mix.

Girly Touch: purchase black and blue cups. Everyone will come in a pick a cup color depending who they are cheering. The black cups will be given to the people rooting for the Saints, and you guessed it, the blue cups are for the Colts’ fans. Tip: supply a permanent marker so people can write their names on the cups. This allows you to cut back on buying more cups than necessary.

Food:

Men’s liking: wing, pizza, chips and dip. Men love finger foods and no napkins (unless you are my mom’s boyfriend, you then will learn to love napkins).

Girly Touch: you can make the wings and pizza. It allows you to cut back on costs and calories. Do include chips and dip but also add pretzels, since they are slightly better for you. And for us, add the napkins on the side.

Décor:

Men’s liking: nothing!

Girly Touch: table clothes, bowls, and napkins in the teams’ colors. Also, you most likely won’t have to, but encourage everyone to wear the jersey or color of the team they are cheering for.

Entertainment:

Men’s liking: competition in the game

Girly Touch: competition in real life. The teams will be formed by who the guests are cheering for. Every time a team scores, the people rooting for the opposite team have to do a dare the scoring team wants. (Ex. Chug a cup a beer, do 25 pushups, or can’t cheer the next time their team makes a good play.)

I can’t wait to hear how your superbowl party turns out! What are some of your favorite Superbowl tips and ideas?

Ahshia I’m with you, as a planner I love throwing in the bells and whistles to make a great event but once it is game time, I’m glued to the TV, drink in one hand and chicken wing in the other.

That’s the great thing about this event- you are allowed to add your girly touches before and kind of through out the night, without it affecting you watching the game. I also would be watching the football game with the men, and taking complete advantage of the competition game!!!
